The frame of this woolwork of a sulphur crested Cockatoo dates from the late 1930's. There is an English framer's label on the back of the frame that bears an Art Deco font plus there are several revenue stamps on the back that were first issued in 1937. The cockatoo sits on a branch amid roses, fuchsias and morning glories. The subject is reminiscent of mid 19th century examples, but the background has a definite Art Deco feel to it. The woolwork may be contemporaneous with the frame, or it may be an older one reframed in the 1930's. The height of the frame is 625 mm (24.5 inches) and the width 580 mm (23 inches). Both the woolwork and the birds-eye maple frame are in good condition.
