This large, rather striking Melrose vase with its three shades of green, has a smooth, slightly iridescent glaze to the top but as you progress to the bottom the texture is more like orange peel. Its condition is very good with only some not particularly noticeable crazing and a couple of small glaze chips to the base to mar it, the largest chip being 5 mm x 2 mm. The crack like marks on the base are crazing. Its height is 225 mm and diameter is 215 mm. It dates from the 1930s.
Mel-Rose was the name given to a range of art pottery made in the Melbourne suburb of Brunswick, in the 1930's, by the Hoffman Patent Tile and Brick Co.
