This large, good quality silver plated salver (trays have handles, salvers don't) was made in Melbourne in imitation of Old Sheffield Plate, which was a method of silver coating copper or brass that was superseded by electroplating in the late 1840's. The outer rim is decorated with bunches of grapes and vines and the centre features chased arabesques. Hecworth silver plated items were made by Platers P/L of St Kilda, from around 1942 up until 1949 when they were taken over by G & E Rodd. It has a diameter of 422 mm and is in good condition with some very small areas where the silver has been lost, mainly to the high points.
