This very pretty Coalport cake plate and sugar bowl came originally from a tea set retailed by Thomas Goode & Co. of Mayfair, London. Thomas Goode started his business in 1827 and was known as a high end retailer of quality china, glass and silver. The decoration on these pieces was hand painted and gilded by Coalport, using the shape and pattern of a popular design that Coalport had issued in the 1820's and 30's. The plate has a width of 250 mm (10 inches) across the handles, while the bowl stands 70 mm (2.75 inches) high, with a diameter of 126 mm (5 inches). There is some slight loss of the gilding to the edges. They would date from around 1900.
