This good quality Fischer & Mieg seven piece hand painted dessert set consists of six plates and a larger bowl. It is decorated with a hand painted and gilded Imari pattern using the traditional colours of cobalt blue, iron red and gold, and imitates a Japanese design. Fischer and Mieg were situated in a town known as Pirkenhammer in Bohemia, now named Brezova in the Czech Republic, and were well known for producing good quality items. The plates have a diameter of 242 mm (9.5 inches), while the bowl measures 300 mm (11.5 inches) in diameter and stands 40 mm (1.5 inches) high. The set is in very good condition, with one plate having a small shallow chip to the back of the rim. This can't be seen from the front. It dates from the 1870's.
