The base of this Australian cedar tilt top table dates from around 1840. The central column rests on a quatraform base on bun feet which still house the original brass castors. The base is veneered in cedar, which has been repolished, and shows wonderful colour. The rectangular top dates from a few years later and has been repolished. Also known as breakfast tables, they were designed so that they could be folded up and moved out of the way after use and so took up little space. This table is what is known as a marriage, where the constituent parts didn't start out together, but have been bought together to make one piece of furniture. Having said that, this table is still an attractive, useful piece of furniture that would suit a smaller room. The length of the top is 134 cm, the width 103 cm, and it comfortably seats six people.
