An original hand-coloured engraving from Curtis' Botanical Magazine first published in 1787 and still in publication today by Kew Gardens.
William Curtis, a famed English botanist (1746-99) produced a scientifically accurate journal with meticulously drawn specimens accompanied by a descriptive text.  The first 70 volumes (1787 to mid 1800's) were printed with copper etching and hand-finished with watercolour. After his death his brother continued the publication.
Plate No 1000, published London 1807. Copperplate etching with original watercolour on woven paper.
Some foxing consistent with age.  Ready to hang. Description on back.  Lovely gilt frame with bow detail and curved glass.
